The Settlement, Letchworth - Adult Oil painting sessions run courses in blocks of three terms, each term is 12 weeks, classes are 2.5 hours long each week.
Classes are small so there is lots of one to one tutoring, suitable for all abilities and include lots of hand outs and support. The group explores and investigates Art history and oil painting techniques through weekly/fortnightly projects, building all manner of drawing and painting skills in a friendly and creative atmosphere.

Intro into Still Life:

Students will complete three studies exploring Brush marks, Colour mixing and Tonal Contrast.

Good weather: Painting in the court yard, techniques and experience of painting outside.

Bad Weather: Colour palette portrait studies, multiple copies of the same portrait using various colour combinations.

Foreshortening figures/life painting, starting with an accurate observational drawing which is built into a painting building skin tone knowledge and expertise.

Crowds and London Landmarks: exploring various urban artists artworks (Hashim Akib, Herbert Badham, Georges Stein, Sybil Andrews), students will create their own considering composition, colour and brush marks.
